Kentucky Railway Museum

A railroad museum, train ride and gift shop all in one place! Stroll through our exhibit hall that includes artifacts, memorabilia and a large HO model train lay-out. The museum also includes outdoor displays and historic cars that you can view from the exterior. And if you opt for a train ride, The train travels through the historic L&N Lebanon Branch. It is the most historic and oldest portion of the entire Louisville & Nashville Railroad. In 1855 the first rails were laid on the Lebanon Branch.

Kentucky Railway Museum owns over 100 pieces of rolling stock, including flat cars, cranes, refrigerated (reefer) units, box cars, Railway Post Office (RPO) cars, hoppers and other assorted pieces in addition to passenger cars and cabooses.

The museum was officially chartered in 1954, and with the donation of steam locomotive #152, leased six acres of land on River Road, opening to the public on Memorial Day, 1958. The museum grew with the addition of other donated rail equipment and artifacts, with over 100,000 visitors coming through the gates by the early 1960s. Over 200,000 people came to the River Road site in the first 10 years of operation!
